Refractive Lens Surgery

Lens replacement surgery (also known as refractive lens exchange or clear lens surgery and is an advancement of cataract surgery) is the same procedure as cataract surgery which is the most commonly performed refractive procedure in the world. It can be used to reduce or eliminate your need for glasses / contact lenses and is ideal for those over 50 who may need help for both seeing in the distance and for near. During the procedure the eye’s natural lens is removed and replaced with an artificial lens, the power of which is individual to your vision and lifestyle needs.

Am I suitable?

If you come under any of the following categories then yes! 

Are you:

• Dependent on bifocal, varifocal or multifocal contact lenses or glasses?
• Presbyopic?
• Long sighted (hyperopic)?
• Short sighted (myopic)?
• Astigmatic?
• Do you have cataract?

You would not be suitable however if you:

• Are pregnant / breast feeding
• Are under 45*
• Have certain eye conditions (e.g. wet macular degeneration)

*Although lens replacement surgery may not be advised in your specific case there may be an alternative procedure suitable for you.  We would be more than happy to speak with you to see if you are suitable for one of our other procedures.

There are just three steps to better vision:

1. Come see if you are suitable – we will assess your suitability and take the measurements required to recommend a procedure tailored to you. This appointment may take up to 2 hours. 
2. Your surgery – the procedure takes only 20 minutes!
3. Your lifetime aftercare – you will have dedicated support from the team, including regular phone check ins and we will see you in person one month after surgery, or before if required.  Most people do not require any further follow up after that but if you do our door is always open.
