What Is Presbyond?

Presbyond is an advanced laser eye treatment designed specifically for presbyopia, the natural age-related loss of near vision that typically begins after 40. Unlike traditional monovision techniques, which correct one eye for distance and the other for near vision, Presbyond uses wavefront-optimised laser technology to create a seamless blended vision. Creating the Corneal Flap

The procedure begins with the creation of a thin, precise corneal flap using an advanced femtosecond laser. This ultra-fast laser technology ensures a smooth, even incision, minimising disruption to surrounding tissue. The flap is carefully lifted to allow for the next step—reshaping the cornea to correct vision with pinpoint accuracy.

Lifting the Corneal Flap

Once the corneal flap is created, it is gently lifted to expose the inner corneal tissue beneath. This step is performed with precision and care, ensuring minimal disruption while preparing the eye for the next phase—reshaping the cornea to correct refractive errors.

Correcting the Visual Defect

Using an advanced excimer laser, the cornea is carefully reshaped to achieve precise vision correction. The treatment is customized to optimize the dominant eye for distance vision while adjusting the non-dominant eye for near vision, creating a seamless blended vision effect that enhances clarity at all distances.

Repositioning the Corneal Flap

Your journey to clearer vision begins with a personal consultation, where your doctor will assess whether Presbyond is suitable for your eyes. This includes measuring key eye parameters and discussing your individual vision needs. Before your comprehensive medical examination, you must avoid wearing soft contact lenses for at least one week and hard lenses for two weeks, as they can alter the shape of the cornea. The same applies before surgery. To minimise infection risks, patients should refrain from makeup, face creams, lotions, and perfumes on the day before and the day of treatment. A final thorough cleansing of the eye area is recommended on the morning of the procedure.

On the day of surgery, you can eat and drink as normal but should avoid smoking. The outpatient Presbyond procedure takes around 20 minutes for both eyes. After anesthetic drops are applied, a femtosecond laser creates a corneal flap, which is then lifted to allow an excimer laser to precisely reshape the cornea. The dominant eye is adjusted for distance vision, while the non-dominant eye is optimised for near vision, creating a seamless blended vision effect. The flap is then repositioned, acting as a natural bandage. No eye patch is needed, but sunglasses are recommended, and driving is not allowed immediately after surgery.
